Strengthening social connectedness among older adults

Strengthening Social Connectedness Among Older Adults: February 2022 Webinar

We have a social connectedness crisis in America among older adults. Studies and surveys show that 1 in 4 people over the age of 50 feel lonely a significant amount of the time, and 1 in 3 are socially isolated. These problems have real, significant impacts on health and well-being. Research suggests that being isolated is comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day in terms of your health impact. With such a key connection to our health, we’re asking the question in this webinar: What can we do to address the problem to try strengthening social connectedness among older adults?

In our February, 2022 webinar below we spoke with three amazing speakers working to make a difference on this critically important issue. We spoke a bit about the causes of social isolation and loneliness among older adults, including ageism and equity. We then explored several new approaches and solutions to address isolation and strengthen social connectedness among older adults. You can watch the on-demand webinar recording below for free, learn more about our speakers and panelists, and find a list of additional related resources to continue your research.
