Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I’m a community psychologist and network scientist with a passion for using systems tools (like network science) to help communities find ways to better understand and address complex problems. I was born and raised in the Chicago area and spent about 10 years in Michigan during graduate school and my postdoctoral fellowship. I love the midwest! In my free time, I enjoy hiking, baking, and playing fiddle music.

What is your new position and what do you hope to accomplish in it?

In my new position, I’m serving as a network data scientist. I’ll be working with the PARTNER CPRM tool to support clients who use it, engage in thought leadership around networks at the community and systems level, and identify ways we can make this tool as useful as possible. I firmly believe in the value of understanding and mobilizing networks for social change. Complex problems are rarely addressed by individuals operating in isolation. In this position, I hope to come to new insights about how communities can understand and leverage their networks most effectively using VNL’s tools.

Who is a significant mentor in your life?

My mom has been a huge mentor throughout my life. She has taught me so much about how to be a team player, to handle any situation with grace, and how to make a good pie. Though I’ve had many other mentors, she is still the first person I go to for advice.

Where is your favorite place to visit on vacation?

Patagonia! I visited Santiago, Chile for an academic conference in 2018 and was able to head south for several days of hiking in Patagonia. It is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been and the hiking opportunities are endless. One of the highlights of the trip was a boat tour to see a glacier close up. I can’t wait to return!

If you could have any superpower, what would it be, and why?

I would want the power of teleportation! I love to travel and my family/friends are spread across lots of places. Being able to teleport would make it so much easier to explore new places and connect with my favorite people.

What do you enjoy doing away from work?

In the last year, I picked up the violin after a 15 year hiatus and have been learning to play fiddle music. It has been a real challenge but so much fun! I also love to get outdoors and do lots of hiking and biking. When I’m indoors, I love to bake and have been working my way through Claire Saffitz’s cookbook, Dessert Person.
