Meet our New Full Stack Developer, Josh Albert!

Josh Albert

The Development Team that brought you PARTNER continues to expand its size and capacity as we bring on another Full stack Engineer to our team. Josh Albert has several decades of experience building websites and technology. We’re excited to have his support as we get ready to release exciting new PARTNER features like longitudinal and comparative network analysis. We asked Josh a few questions to get to know him better during his first month here. Enjoy them below.

What originally made you interested in working at VNL?

I felt good about the real-world impact the company had already made. However, what attracted me most is what I saw as an interesting set of challenges, and an opportunity for growth. I also heard a speech the CEO gave on the topic of network science prior to even knowing about VNL, and I was impressed. I see very good things in the future for this company, and recognize working here as being a valuable experience

What's your job title and what will you be doing here?

I am a Full Stack Engineer. I help the team improve the products offered by fixing bugs, adding features, optimizing algorithms, automating processes, and maintaining the code base for PARTNER and our other software solutions.

Who are some of your biggest inspirations?

Steve Wozniak and Richard Fienman are the people I most identify with and aspire to be like. They have both contributed incalculably to the world in ways most people don’t realize, and yet both remained humble and have a great sense of humor (Listen to Steve Wozniak’s story about the book of $2 bills).

What's the best place you've traveled to?

The one that sticks out to me the most is Stonehole Bay Beach, Bermuda. The massive rock formations next to the ocean are beautiful.

Where did you work previously, and what did you do there?

I’ve freelanced, mostly, for the past 10 years, and have worked on and created hundreds of websites for clients. For the past 20 years, in one way or another, I have been building web sites and technology.

What's a major accomplishment you're proud of?

There are a couple of projects that stand out, and I have won a couple of awards and done a lot of great work over the years that I am proud of. However, the “major accomplishment” of my life has been making a difference in the lives of those I love. I am confident that the greatest accomplishments of my career are still ahead of me, and that they will be here at VNL.

What do you hope to accomplish in your new role here at VNL?

Ultimately, the systems that VNL has created can improve, and even save lives. If I can dramatically improve that system by making it faster, more user friendly, and more capable and feature-rich, I see that as saving lives. I also think there is a great opportunity to leverage the power of artificial intelligence and deep learning systems more than we are doing now, which has been a passion of mine for a few years.

Welcome to the Team, Josh!

If you’re a PARTNER user, Josh is already hard at work improving the platform for you and all of our clients and partners. We’re excited to see what we’ll accomplish with his new help!
