Meet our New Data Scientist, Dr. Rose Hardy!

VNL is growing and excited to welcome a new Data Scientist to our team, Dr. Rose Hardy. As a member of our Research and Data Science Team, Dr. Hardy will be supporting our client project work with her public health and network science expertise. We asked Rose a few questions to get to know her and her background a bit better.

What originally made you interested in working at VNL?

I first got to know Danielle when she presented some of her work looking at children with special health care needs and their health care networks. It’s been a dream for many years to be able to work at VNL. I’m so excited to get the chance to find new ways to improve the care we provide and to think about how social support, and other social determinants of health, impact the health of a community.

What's your job title and what will you be doing here?

I’m a data scientist on the Research and Data Science team. Part of my job will be to contribute to implementation and data analysis of current projects here at VNL, but another part will be to think about the best ways we can conceptualize and analyze the PARTNERme data.

Who are some of your biggest inspirations?

I’ve had wonderful mentors, but some of the people that inspire me the most have been friends and peers. They are funny, kind, intellectually curious, and motivated to work to change their communities for the better.

What's the best place you've traveled to?

It’s so hard to choose! As a Korean adoptee, visiting South Korea with my dad was pretty meaningful. But traveling to India, Vietnam, and Ireland with different friends are some of my favorite memories. I love getting the chance to sit in a coffee shop or café and people watch.

Where did you work previously, and what did you do there?

I was a post-doctoral research scientist at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. I worked with Dr. Kelleher and Dr. Chisolm in the Center for Innovation in Pediatric Practice. Much of my time was spent looking at how social determinants of health—like housing, food security, and other characteristics of a community—impact the health and wellbeing of children.

What do you hope to accomplish in your new role here at VNL?

It’s always fun to think about how we can use data effectively and responsibly. Network data has so much value and I look forward to contributing to our ability to use it to make meaningful changes.

Welcome, Dr. Hardy!

If you’re a partner or client of ours, you’ll likely meet Dr. Rose at an upcoming project meeting or event. Make sure you say hello and ask her about her first month here at Visible Network Labs. VNL is hiring several new team members this month. Click here to meet our Research and Evaluation manager, Kaley, and click here to meet our Full Stack Software Engineer, Josh.
