🌟 Visible Network Labs Celebrates Collaboration and Innovation in Primary Care Research
At Visible Network Labs, we are thrilled to share groundbreaking insights from the recently published study, “Fifty Years of Connection: Characterizing the Social Network of a Primary Care Research Organization,” co-authored by our very own Dr. Danielle Varda and Dr. Jennifer Lawlor.
This milestone research, marking the 50th anniversary of the North American Primary Care Research Group (NAPCRG), highlights the transformative power of social connections in primary care research, all analyzed using the PARTNER CPRM platform.
Unpacking the Study
The study set out to examine the intricate web of relationships within NAPCRG, which has championed primary care research since its inception in 1972. Using PARTNER CPRM’s survey feature, researchers gathered data from 906 participants, mapping 5,196 professional relationships across 1,721 individuals.
Key findings include:
- 60% of relationships were categorized as “integrated,” representing high levels of collaboration.
- 62.8% of collaborations led to research papers, and 43.7% resulted in grant applications, emphasizing the tangible outcomes of strong professional connections.
- Relationships fostered through NAPCRG were pivotal in advancing primary care research, with 75% of respondents rating the organization as “successful” or “very successful” in supporting their goals.
The Role of PARTNER in SNA
PARTNER CPRM played a critical role in capturing and analyzing the data that made this study possible. By providing a user-friendly platform for Social Network Analysis (SNA), PARTNER enabled researchers to visualize connections, measure collaboration intensity, and understand the network’s impact.
The network map generated through the study (seen below) offers a vivid representation of the diverse and deeply interconnected relationships within NAPCRG, underscoring how intentional networking can drive innovation and research outcomes.

What This Means for the Future
As NAPCRG looks ahead to its next 50 years, this study lays a foundation for even greater collaboration. The findings illustrate the value of networks like NAPCRG in creating productive partnerships and advancing primary care research.
At VNL, we are proud to have contributed to this research, and we look forward to continuing to support organizations in leveraging SNA to enhance collaboration, trust, and value within their communities.
